When you arrive for your first appointment you will be asked to complete a comprehensive intake form if you haven't already done so. The intake form asks questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history. These questions are important because the holistic approach taken in our clinic takes everything into account. Your current symptoms may not seem related to past health issues, but our bodies are complex landscapes and everything that happens to them leaves its mark.
After reviewing your intake form, we will discuss your condition, and then we will perform our assessment in accordance with your chosen therapy. After we have finished our assessment, your treatment will begin.
Please note, if you are having either Shockwave Therapy or Manual Osteopathic Therapy, you are asked to bring a pair of shorts and ladies please wear a sports bra.
Many first-time patients are concerned that acupuncture needles will feel like hypodermic injections at the doctor’s office. They won't. Acupuncture uses hair-thin, flexible needles that you will hardly feel when we insert them. When we gently stimulate the needles they may produce a unique sensation that Oriental medicine calls de qi. Patients often describe de qi as a heavy, achy pressure, or spreading, travelling feeling. You may also feel an "electrical" sensation moving down the meridian pathways, though this is less common. Most patients find these acupuncture sensations deeply satisfying and leave the treatment feeling relaxed both mentally and physically.
Shockwave treatments are short, intense sessions. Shockwave will feel like pressure waves hitting your tissues. Many people experience a deep achy feeling in the area being treated. Although Shockwave is not a painless therapy, the benefits far outweigh any discomfort you may feel. All treatments are always administered within your pain tolerance and steps will be taken to mediate any discomfort as much as possible.
MOT is a gentle, hands on therapy. Your therapist will multiple different treatment techniques such as osteoarticular manipulations, visceral manipulations, craniosacral, and advanced fascia release. All of these techniques are very gentle and calming. Your therapist will continue to check in with the body's tissues. Techniques will be changed in order to provide you with the most benefit. Above all, your therapist will try to improve your health and well-being without over treating.
On normal tissue, massage is a pleasant sensation, which will give you a very relaxed feeling. Massage in an area of chronic pain or an injury, may at first cause some discomfort. Always let your massage therapist know when you feel any discomfort, so he or she can make adjustments. A regular massage helps to achieve a feeling of well being and to maintain optimum health. On your first appointment, your massage therapist will ask you questions about your medical history. Always tell your massage therapist if you have a medical problem, even a minor one. Also, let your family doctor or primary health care practitioner know that you are receiving massage therapy.
Please note that we have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, we reserve the right to charge you half the cost of your session. Also, please note that our policy for missed appointments is to charge the full cost of the session. Thank you for your understanding.
Please note that as of January 2023 we will no longer accept Motor Vehicle Accident Claims. We will be more than happy to treat you, however, direct billing will not be available. We will be happy to give you a detailed receipt and will assist with any questions or concerns that may follow.
